Rates

The 10Y’s Back to the Future MomentUnc Nation Speaks on High Yield Environment Investing

5.342%. That's where the 10-year peaked this morning, its highest level since April 3, 2002. Swaps now fully price a Fed hike by year-end. Warsh doesn't have to say a word. The bond market is saying it for him.

The fuel was everywhere. ISM prices paid came in at 77.9 against 72 expected. Brent jumped 3% to top $100 after China reportedly suspended October fuel exports.

And stocks closed green anyway. $SPX added 0.19% to 7,666.45, the Nasdaq eked out 0.04% to 26,871.60, and the Dow inched up 20 points to 50,926.56. Yields backed off late, with the 10-year ending about 6 basis points lower.

The banks didn't get the memo. The KBW bank index dropped as much as 2.4% intraday and sits more than 13% off its August peak. Money hasn't cost this much since Nokia was cool.

Markets

Circular Economies…Broadcom & Dario Right Now

Reuters got into the Anthropic IPO prospectus again. $AVGO has agreed to lend the company up to $42 billion in convertible notes, sized to cover about a third of a $125.2 billion five-year compute commitment.

Read that twice. The supplier lends the customer the money. The customer spends it on the supplier. The filing itself warns the arrangement could create conflicts of interest.

The IPO could start marketing as early as mid-November at a valuation up to $2 trillion, while OpenAI has postponed its own plans.

Demand is real, to be fair. $MU posted $33.42 a share on $54.23 billion in revenue, against estimates of $31.83 and $51.49 billion, and raised its outlook.

Vendor financing is a great trade right up until rates are 5.3%… let’s see how this plays for retail.

Mining

Panamanian Pandemonium A Panamanian government commission recommended the orderly closure of Cobre Panama on Wednesday. $FM was halted twice by circuit breakers, then a third time down 31% at $31.10. It closed down 15.27% at $38.23.

The mine has been suspended since late 2023. The whole bull case was a restart. The commission just said shut it properly instead.

It dragged the index with it. The TSX went from a 311-point drop Monday to 35,235.87 by Wednesday's close, a one-month low, and finished red again today while the US gained.

Jurisdiction risk is free until it isn't. Always keep your head up.

Looking Ahead

What To Watch TomorrowJobs report, 8:30 AM ET. Consensus is about 90,000 payrolls with unemployment holding at 4.1%. A hot print with the 10-year already at 5.3% is the nightmare scenario.

$NKE at the open. Beat on earnings by 4 cents, but revenue fell 4% to $11.21 billion, Greater China dropped 26%, and the stock fell about 6% after hours.

The 10-year. 5.34% is the line. Everything else trades off it.

Thank You

That’s all Folks Just one more fucking day, I can smell it…
